This year’s CFT Convention celebrated its centennial year, March 22-24 at the lovely Millennium Biltmore in Los Angeles. There were many guest speakers including Jackie Goldberg (Candidate for LAUSD Board), Bill Fletcher (Labor scholar and organizer), Nancy MacClean (Duke Professor), and Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell who was recognized as CFT’s Legislator of the Year. Arlene Inouye was recognized as CFT’s Woman of the Year for her outstanding service as a labor leader and her work in negotiations with LAUSD during the strike.
Elections were held and Jeff Frietas is the new President, Lukkia Smith is the new Secretary-Treasurer and the twenty-four incumbent Vice-Presidents were re-elected.
Many resolutions were passed including a resolution to include part-time faculty in the shared governance process and to be compensated for that work, compensation for part-time employees during any lockdown and to be held harmless at any other employment during that lockdown and lockdown kits for all academic work areas.
